15th Indonesian Film Festival 2.0 Kicks Off with an Exceptional Lineup

 The 15th Indonesian Film Festival (IFF) 2.0 Australia makes a triumphant return in 2021 to celebrate Indonesia’s culture through films on 13-18 April 2021.

Carefully curated to showcase Indonesia’s culture, IFF will be screening an array of Indonesian films, from commercial and restoration cinematic works to short films. Screenings will be online on IFF’s website to ensure all Indonesians worldwide could participate in the appreciation of the Indonesian film industry.

Featured in this year’s IFF are the following masterpieces:
Day 1 – Abracadabra (2019)
Director         : Faozan Rizal

Genre             : Drama/Fantasy
Guest              : Lukman Sardi
Synopsis        : The story begins in a magic show, where the magician Lukman attempts to make a little boy disappear through an old wooden box. The show turns tragic, as he cannot make this boy reappear on stage.

Day 2 – Negeri Dongeng (2017)

Genre             : Drama/Adventure

Synopsis        : This is a film about an adventure to explore Indonesia, meeting friends and introspection. Negeri Dongeng tells the story about 7 young Indonesian filmmakers who climbed the 7 highest mountain peaks in the archipelago together with their 7 cameras.

“… And the love for the land of Indonesia can be strengthened by exploring the nation and its people. The growth of the soul should be just as significant as the physical. Thus why we went up the mountain” -Soe Hok Gie.

The long journey unravels stories of every place that they visit, triggering various emotions as they encounter new faces in their exploration of land, sea, and air. Every part of the story will show why Indonesia is so rich and vast to explore together. And only at the end will we find the true meaning of the journey.

Day 3 – Catatan Si Boy (Restored Version) (1987)

Synopsis        : Boy, a student from a rich family who has a relationship with a girl from college, but the couple’s love is opposed by her parents.

Day 4 – Generasi 90-an: Melankolia (In Gloom) (2020)

Synopsis        : In his adolescent days of searching for self-identity, Abby always looked up to his beloved sister, Indah. Suddenly, he has to face the devastating reality that he lost her due to a plane crash. Struggling with grief, he finds himself getting closer to Indah’s best friend, Sephia. Will Sephia’s presence help Abby let go of his sister or will it drive him to lose himself instead?

Day 5 – Rumah dan Musim Hujan (One Day When the Rain Falls) (2012)

Synopsis        : A family story set in an old Javan house. The story is told in three parts to reveal contradictions between faith, generations, and views of the future. Each part enfolds the story in a different tone, showcasing three genres in one film: drama, horror, and comedy.

Day 6 – Jemari yang Menari di Atas Luka-Luka (Golden Frames in the Closet) (2019)

Synopsis        : Anxiety hits the heart of a mortuary cosmetologist when she accepts a job from a mother to make-up the corpse of her child who died suddenly in an accident. A silent film.

Day 6 – Lamun Sumelang (Forfeiture) (2019)

Synopsis         : Agus (a forty years old man) is a father who seeks a way to recover her daughter by killing 7 people as a sacrifice. He chooses his victims by waiting for Pulung Gantung (red comet-like) as a sign that there is a suicide by hanging will happen. Agus has an ability to communicate with ghosts; including with those who has been killed; that makes him have to deal with his victims. One night, he found his sixth’s victim. That being happened, he just needs one more victim that can make all of the killings stop and recover her daughter who has been suffering for a long time.

Day 6 – Tak ada yang Gila di Kota Ini (No One is Crazy in This Town) (2019)

Synopsis         : During the holiday season in South Beach of Java, the hotel owners order Marwan and his team to remove mentally ill people from the city street and cast them away in the forest, so they won’t disturb the tourists. Instead of leaving them dying in the forests, Marwan has other plans.

All films will include English subtitles. The screenings precede Q&A sessions with guest stars and directors, hosted by Movie Metropolis’ very own Peter Krausz.
